Kim Bender

Dear Friends,

I will be retiring from my role as ED at the Healthcare Foundation later this year, and as a longtime friend of the organization I hope you might be supportive of our executive search process for a new ED. I will continue in my role until the new ED is hired and onboarded, with a goal of a smooth transition and organizational continuity. I’m excited for the organization’s next chapter as well as for my own. (More on that at a later date!)

I began my work as the executive director of the Healthcare Foundation on March 23, 2020. Over the last four years, with your help, we have raised over six million dollars and distributed over 150 grants and scholarships to worthy organizations and individuals who share our vision of health justice. We survived the pandemic together, while doubling down on our bold vision to eliminate health inequities in northern Sonoma County. We’ve made a commitment to trust-based philanthropy, and deeply listened to the community in our strategic thinking. We have diversified our board and brought equity to the forefront of all our practices. We have developed truly collaborative, community-led initiatives, and in so doing have built community power.

The Healthcare Foundation board of directors has been incredibly supportive of me and of this organizational transformation over the last four years. Our donors continue to demonstrate overwhelming generosity and support for our initiatives by joining with us as agents of change.

I am confident in the growing strength of the Healthcare Foundation, our place in the Sonoma County ecosystem, and the future we are forging together that will continue beyond my tenure.

Thank you for all the love and support you have provided since my arrival in 2020. This community is remarkably generous, intelligent and compassionate. As I continue to collaborate with the board and our team on the hiring process and transition plan for my successor, I am filled with gratitude and awe.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

With gratitude,

Kim Bender
