Esther Lemus is the current Vice Mayor of Windsor. Esther ran her first campaign for Windsor Town Council in November 2018, becoming the first Latina elected to a Council seat in the town’s history. She previously served as a Windsor School Board Trustee, after being appointed in 2015 and then elected to her seat in 2016. Esther works as an attorney for Legal Aid of Sonoma County and previously worked for 14 years as a Deputy District Attorney with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office. Prior to working as a D.A., Esther served as a federal prosecutor for the United States Department of Justice in the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the Northern and Southern Districts of California. Esther joined Legal Aid of Sonoma County in August 2021, where she was soon promoted to the role of Supervising Attorney for the Domestic Violence and Elder Law Units as well as two specialty units handling family law and guardianship matters. Esther was born and raised in Santa Rosa and moved to Windsor when she was in high school. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley and a Juris Doctor degree from UCLA School of Law. She and her husband, Doug, reside in Windsor with their two daughters.
